Faith Forward is more of a quest than it is a website. You see, in 2008, I began to struggle with what life was really all about for those of us who claim to be disciples of Christ. I began to actively struggle with questions about the Church of Christ, about discipleship, about programs, about consumerism, about belief and practice, about life. I really began to struggle with what Jesus meant when He said: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind' ; and, Love your neighbor as yourself.' And also when He said: Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. What does it really mean to love God, tolove other people, and to make disciples of Jesus?  Hanging on the wall in our office is a "Horn Seed Sower" that was used by my grandfather, Oscar Dehne. It is really an elementary device. A cloth sack, a simple strap, and a metal chute that disperses seed as gravity feeds it. It s a simple device...AND a powerful reminder of what we're here for.
At Faith Forward, we believe that our job as disciples of Christ (and within our consulting and communications ministry) is to scatter the seeds of God's Word and to urge the community of faith forward. To state that mission another way (as Jesus did), we are on a life quest to love God, to love others, and to make disciples.
This site is designed as a tool for fellow disciples. It is designed to be a resource and to facilitate an ongoing discussion. So, we'd like to welcome you to the site and say: To those who are ready for something deeper - welcome. To those who want to live differently - welcome. To those who want to struggle along in the process of growing in a loving response to God, a loving attitute towards others, and an intentional vision for God's plans for others - welcome. |
